Full details

Switzerland requires drones to be registered with the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA). Switzerland is not in the EU but has adopted equivalent drone regulations. No-fly zones include airports, military areas, and near the federal parliament. Maximum altitude 120m. Strict rules near Alpine peaks and glaciers. Enforcement in Switzerland carries fines from CHF 100 to CHF 50,000 under Zollgesetz (SR 631.0) Art. 118; Verwaltungsstrafrecht Art. 6 (typical personal cases are handled as civil infringements).

PENALTIES

  • Fine: 100–50000 CHF
  • Civil penalty only

Leaving Switzerland with consumer drone

RESTRICTEDConsumer drones may generally be exported from Switzerland for personal use; higher-specification drones face dual-use controls and many destinations restrict drone import.

Personal consumer drones (DJI Mini/Mavic class) are generally exportable from Switzerland as consumer electronics. Higher-performance drones (extended range, heavy payload, thermal imaging) may fall under dual-use export controls (Wassenaar Arrangement implementations). The sharper constraint is destination-side: many countries require registration or permits for drone import and several prohibit it at various times — verify the arrival rule for the same route before travelling. Batteries follow cabin-carriage lithium rules.

PRACTICAL ADVICE

Register before flying. Alpine areas have specific restrictions. Swiss airspace rules differ slightly from EU.
