Commercial independence
Goods Across Borders is editorially independent. We do not take affiliate fees, referral commissions, paid placements, sponsored rule pages, or pay-for-rank inclusions in our reference data.
What we do not do
- Carrier affiliate links. When we name a carrier, it is because the carrier is a relevant data point — not because we earn anything from naming them.
- Broker / freight-forwarder referrals. No commission deals with brokers, no sponsored "find a broker" widgets.
- Pay-for-inclusion in rule data. No country, item, FTA, sanction, airport, or airline is in this site because anyone paid for it to be there.
- Sponsored content. No company-funded "guides", no white-label rule pages.
What we may do in future
- Paid API tiers for commercial users who need bulk access, SLAs, or change-alerts. The data itself remains open under CC-BY 4.0.
- Premium tools (saved watchlists, change alerts, CSV exports, white-label widgets, compliance PDFs).
- Consulting for organisations wanting custom datasets or in-house import-compliance training. Disclosed up-front, never on a per-rule basis.
None of these affect the editorial content of the public site. If they ever did, this page would say so.
Disclosures
If we ever accept a research grant, public-interest funding, or partnership, we will disclose it here with the amount, the funder, and the scope. As of the latest update, we have no such arrangements.
Why this matters
Customs and import information is high-stakes. Misleading advice can cost a traveller their goods, or worse. Affiliate-driven incentives push sites to recommend services rather than tell people the rule. We are not interested in that tradeoff.
