Full details

Egypt effectively prohibits civilian drone use. Import of drones requires military approval which is extremely difficult to obtain. Drones are routinely confiscated at airports. Using a drone near any military installation, government building, or archaeological site can result in arrest.

PENALTIES

  • Fine: 50000–300000 EGP
  • Imprisonment up to 36 months
  • Criminal penalty

ENFORCEMENT

Leaving Egypt with consumer drone

PROHIBITEDEgypt prohibits consumer drones without authorisation, so there is no routine lawful personal export — devices are confiscated at the border.

Egypt prohibits the possession and use of drones without a permit from the Ministry of Defence; unauthorised devices are confiscated and carriers prosecuted. Because possession itself requires authorisation that is rarely granted to private individuals, there is no routine personal-export pathway. Travellers transiting Egypt should not carry drones; devices found at departure screening are treated the same as at arrival.

PRACTICAL ADVICE

Do not bring or send consumer drone to Egypt. Confirm current rules with Egyptian Customs Authority (ECA) — part of Egyptian Tax Authority before travel; enforcement and penalties may change.
