Full details

China requires all drones to be registered with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). Real-name registration mandatory. No-fly zones include airports, military installations, government buildings, Tiananmen Square, and sensitive border areas. Flying without registration is a criminal offence.

Leaving China with consumer drone

RESTRICTEDConsumer drones may generally be exported from China for personal use; higher-specification drones face dual-use controls and many destinations restrict drone import.

Personal consumer drones (DJI Mini/Mavic class) are generally exportable from China as consumer electronics. Higher-performance drones (extended range, heavy payload, thermal imaging) may fall under dual-use export controls (Wassenaar Arrangement implementations). The sharper constraint is destination-side: many countries require registration or permits for drone import and several prohibit it at various times — verify the arrival rule for the same route before travelling. Batteries follow cabin-carriage lithium rules.

PRACTICAL ADVICE

Register at the CAAC UAS platform before flying. Beijing and many major cities have extensive no-fly zones.
