Alprazolam (Xanax) is a Schedule IV controlled substance in the US but faces much stricter treatment internationally. The UAE, Japan, and Singapore require prior government authorization before importing benzodiazepines including alprazolam. Travelers have been arrested at UAE airports for possessio. Enforcement in Japan carries fines from JPY 100,000 to JPY 5,000,000 under Customs Law (Kanzeihō) Art. 110, Art. 111 (typical personal cases are handled as civil infringements).

Leaving Japan with xanax / alprazolam
Alprazolam is a Schedule IV controlled substance in the US and equivalent schedules in most other jurisdictions. Personal-use quantities accompanied by the prescription and doctor's letter are generally permitted for export under Narcotics Control Law; Yakkan Shoumei personal-export authorisation. Above these limits, an Yakkan Shoumei from Regional Bureau of Health and Welfare is required in advance. Destination-country rules on benzodiazepine import are more restrictive in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and several other jurisdictions — verify independently before travel.
