Leaving Australia with wine

ALLOWEDPersonal wine for own consumption may be exported from Australia freely; destination-side rules apply on arrival.

Wine for personal consumption is freely exportable from Australia. Destination-country customs rules (personal-import allowances at destination) govern the arrival side. Excise duty is remitted at export for commercial quantities; personal-use quantities do not trigger commercial-export documentation. Duty-free purchases at the departure airport clear at the destination side against the destination's traveller allowance.

QUANTITY CHECK

litres

Duty-free: 2.25L of alcohol (18+), 25 cigarettes or 25g tobacco (18+), and AUD $900 worth of general goods per adult (AUD $450 for those under 18). Children under 18 cannot claim alcohol or tobacco allowances. USD equivalent is approximate.

PRACTICAL ADVICE

Standard wine allowance typically 2-4L per traveler 18+. Above the allowance, excise + 10% VAT. Declare at Red Channel with purchase receipts.
