Thailand allows 200 cigarettes or 250g tobacco duty-free. Thai customs actively enforces limits — excess cigarettes face fines of up to 10 times the duty owed. Thailand has some of the world's strictest tobacco marketing laws with graphic health warnings covering 85% of packaging.

Leaving Thailand with tobacco cigarettes
Cigarettes and tobacco for personal consumption are freely exportable from Thailand — excise is origin-paid at retail and no export formality applies to personal quantities. The binding constraint is the destination's duty-free allowance, typically 200 cigarettes (one carton) or 250 g of tobacco, above which arrival duty and in some countries steep penalties apply. Carrying obviously above-allowance quantities can also draw origin-side questioning about undeclared commercial export.
Duty-free: 1L of wine or spirits, 200 cigarettes or 250g of tobacco per adult. Personal effects and goods valued up to THB 15,000 (approx. USD $430) may enter duty-free. Bringing in more than two mobile phones requires declaration.
Declare quantities above the standard 200-cigarette / 50-cigar / 250g personal allowance to Thai Customs; bring the purchase receipt to compute excise + VAT. Keep duty-free purchases sealed in the original retailer bag for audit.
