Leaving China with satellite phone

RESTRICTEDSatellite phones and personal radio transmitters may face export controls from China for dual-use technology reasons.

Personal satellite phones fall under dual-use export controls in most jurisdictions. Personal-use export is typically permitted under general licence for most destinations, but sanctions-listed destinations (Iran, Syria, North Korea) face licence-required treatment. Destination-country satellite-phone rules are separately restrictive (India, China, Cuba, Sudan, Chad, Vietnam, Nigeria, Sri Lanka).

PRACTICAL ADVICE

Do not bring any satellite phone to China. Even transit with a satellite phone can trigger confiscation.
