Can I bring Meat Products into France?
Within EU: no restrictions; from non-EU: limited
EU: unrestricted. Non-EU: commercially packaged only
Within personal allowance — no separate declaration needed
Full details
Within the EU single market, meat products move freely. From non-EU countries, personal quantities of commercially processed meat products may be permitted. Fresh meat from non-EU countries is generally prohibited. France has specific rules for foie gras and certain protected products. In the reverse direction (taking meat products out of France): restricted — Meat products for personal consumption may face export limits from France for animal-health documentation reasons; commercial quantities require an Export Health Certificate.
Leaving France with meat products
Personal-use quantities of processed, cooked, or shelf-stable meat products (jerky, cured meats, canned meats) may generally be exported from France for personal consumption; destination-country biosecurity restrictions on arrival are typically the binding constraint. Raw meat, poultry, and offal require a veterinary-issued Export Health Certificate for commercial or above-personal-use export. Many destinations (Australia, New Zealand, Japan, US, EU) restrict or prohibit personal-import of raw and cooked meat regardless of origin-side export permissions.
From EU countries, no restrictions. From non-EU, only commercially packaged products. If unsure, declare on arrival — declared goods at worst attract duty or surrender, while undeclared goods found in screening are seized.
EU: unrestricted. Non-EU: commercially packaged only
