Full details
Indonesia requires halal certification for all meat products. Non-halal meat (pork products) can be brought in small personal quantities but must be declared. Fresh meat from most countries is prohibited due to animal health concerns. Beef imports follow specific country approval lists. Enforcement in Indonesia carries fines from IDR 1,000,000 to IDR 100,000,000 under Law No. 17/2006 on Customs Art. 82 (typical personal cases are handled as civil infringements).
PENALTIES
- Fine: 1000000–100000000 IDR
- Civil penalty only
Leaving Indonesia with meat products
Personal-use quantities of processed, cooked, or shelf-stable meat products may generally be exported from Indonesia for personal consumption. Raw meat, poultry, and offal require a veterinary-issued Export Health Certificate for commercial or above-personal-use export. Many destinations (Australia, New Zealand, Japan, US, EU) restrict or prohibit personal-import of raw and cooked meat regardless of origin-side permissions.
Declare all meat products. Non-halal items may be questioned. Fresh meat is generally refused. If unsure, declare on arrival — declared goods at worst attract duty or surrender, while undeclared goods found in screening are seized and fined.
