Amphetamine and methamphetamine (the active components of Adderall) are listed in the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Personal import by travelers, including with a foreign prescription, is not authorised under the standard medical-traveler regime; possession can attract NDPS Act penalties. India's Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) does not routinely issue traveler import permits for Schedule X stimulants.

At the airport

1. STEP 1Amphetamines are prohibited under India's NDPS Act 1985. If you arrive with Adderall, proceed to the customs area and use the Red Channel.
2. STEP 2Declare the medication and present your home-country prescription, physician's letter, and any DCGI correspondence if you have it.
3. STEP 3The medication will be confiscated and you may be referred to the Narcotics Control Bureau. Penalties under NDPS Act can include 10+ years rigorous imprisonment.
4. STEP 4Contact your country's consulate immediately and retain any seizure receipt issued by customs.

Leaving India with adderall (medication)

Adderall is a Schedule II controlled substance in the US and equivalent schedules in most other jurisdictions. Personal-use quantities (typically a 30-90 day supply) accompanied by the prescription and doctor's letter are generally permitted for export under NDPS Act 1985 s.9 (personal-use exception); Rules 66-67. Above these limits, an CDSCO personal-export authorisation for scheduled substances is required in advance. Destination-country rules on Adderall import are more restrictive in many jurisdictions (Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, UAE, Saudi Arabia).
