New Zealand prohibits the import of meat products by post. MPI inspects international mail for biosecurity risks. All meat products will be intercepted and destroyed. Enforcement is active at major ports of entry. Items will be confiscated and penalties may include fines or criminal charges. Check with the destination country embassy or customs authority for the latest enforcement stance.
Do not mail any meat products to New Zealand. This includes jerky, dried meats, and canned meats from most countries.
Biosecurity Act 1993
International mail over NZD $1,000 in value requires an import entry and payment of duties/GST. NZ Post and couriers handle customs clearance. Biosecurity checks apply to all inbound parcels.
