Australia permits the import of poppy seeds for culinary use under the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956 — the seeds must be sterilised (heat-treated) and free of opium poppy capsule fragments. Quantities under 1kg in retail packaging clear declaration via the Incoming Passenger Card; bulk quantities require an Office of Drug Control permit.
