Pepper spray is prohibited or heavily restricted in many countries. Canada prohibits it if marketed as a weapon; it is only legal if sold as bear deterrent spray. The UK, Germany, Japan, and much of Asia treat it as a prohibited weapon. Australia and. Enforcement in Indonesia carries fines from IDR 100,000,000 to IDR 5,000,000,000 and imprisonment up to 10 years in aggravated cases under Customs Law No. 17/2006 Art. 102; Narcotics Law No. 35/2009.
