Travellers may bring personal phones into Indonesia but must register the IMEI — unregistered handsets stop working on Indonesian networks after the grace period.

Details

Indonesia admits travellers' personal handsets (up to two devices under the passenger allowance) but requires IMEI registration with customs (Bea Cukai) on arrival for any phone that will use Indonesian SIM cards beyond the short roaming grace period — unregistered IMEIs are blocked from local networks. Registration is done at the airport customs desk or via the Bea Cukai app, with tax collected on the device value above the passenger allowance. Phones on international roaming are unaffected. In the reverse direction (taking mobile phones out of Indonesia): restricted — Commercial-quantity mobile phones exported from Indonesia requires a commercial export declaration; samples at personal quantities move informally.
