Leaving Japan with insulin
Insulin is not a controlled substance and personal-use quantities may be taken out of Japan without export formality. Carry the prescription or pharmacy label and a doctor's letter covering needles and injection devices — the letter is what security screening and destination customs ask for. Keep insulin in cabin baggage (hold temperatures can freeze it) with a cool pack; aviation liquid limits exempt medically necessary liquids. Quantities beyond a personal trip supply may draw questioning about resale.
Declare insulin at customs on arrival in Japan and carry any documentation specified in the rule. Verify current requirements with Japan Customs (Ministry of Finance) before travel.
