Post-Brexit, the UK applies its own phytosanitary rules for fresh fruit from non-EU countries and is phasing in controls on EU fruit. Most commercially sourced fruit is from approved supply chains. Personal quantities of fruit from EU countries currently face minimal checks but this is changing. Enforcement in United Kingdom carries fines from GBP 250 to GBP 20,000 under Customs and Excise Management Act 1979 s.78, s.170 (typical personal cases are handled as civil infringements).

Practical advice

Post-Brexit rules are still being phased in. Most commercial fruit is fine. If unsure, declare on arrival — declared goods at worst attract duty or surrender, while undeclared goods found in screening are seized and fined.
