Full details

Fresh fruit is one of the most seized items at international borders worldwide. Australia and New Zealand have among the most stringent biosecurity rules and prohibit virtually all fresh fruit from being brought in by travelers. The United States res. Enforcement in Indonesia carries fines from IDR 1,000,000 to IDR 100,000,000 under Law No. 17/2006 on Customs Art. 82 (typical personal cases are handled as civil infringements).

PENALTIES

  • Fine: 1000000–100000000 IDR
  • Civil penalty only

Leaving Indonesia with fresh fruit

RESTRICTEDFresh fruit for personal consumption may face export limits from Indonesia for phytosanitary reasons; commercial quantities require a Phytosanitary Certificate.

Personal-use quantities of fresh fruit may generally be exported from Indonesia. Commercial fresh-fruit export requires a Phytosanitary Certificate under the IPPC framework. Many destinations (Australia, New Zealand, US, Japan) restrict or prohibit personal-import of fresh fruit regardless of origin-side permissions.

PRACTICAL ADVICE

Carry documentation. Declare proactively at customs. If unsure, declare on arrival — declared goods at worst attract duty or surrender, while undeclared goods found in screening are seized and fined.
