Importing high-risk industrial chemicals
Importing IATA DG class 3/4/5/6/8 chemicals for industrial use: shipper's declaration, UN packaging, GHS labelling, destination registration.
Checklist
- 01
Identify the IATA DG class of each substance (3 flammable liquid, 4 flammable solid, 5 oxidiser, 6.1 toxic, 8 corrosive). Reference /importing/dangerous-goods/[class].

Engage a IATA DG-certified shipper. Personal travelers cannot carry these substances.

Prepare a Shipper's Declaration for Dangerous Goods (SDDG) for each consignment. UN-spec packaging is mandatory.

GHS labelling on every package (CLP in EU, HCS in US). MSDS / SDS at port of entry.
- 05
Destination registration: REACH (EU), TSCA (US), DSL (Canada), AICS (Australia). Each requires substance pre-registration before importation.

Customs clearance: licensed hazmat carrier coordinates with destination broker; allow 7-14 days extra for DG processing.
