Jet ski damage scam (Phuket / Pattaya)
Rental jet skis 'discovered' to have pre-existing damage after the rental; tourist threatened with police involvement unless they pay USD 500-2,000 'repair fee'. Patrong, Patong, and Pattaya are the hotspots. Always photograph + video the jet ski before riding and refuse to surrender your passport.
Gem / tailor 'special government discount' scam (Bangkok)
Friendly local approaches you near Grand Palace / Wat Pho claiming a 'Buddha day' or 'government promotion' means jewellery / suits are 80% off at a specific shop they recommend. The shop pays them a commission; the gems are fake glass and the tailored suit is poor quality.
