Every destination requires import permits from its arms / firearms authority. Sporting / hunting imports by travelers are a narrow subset with permit lead times of 30-90 days. Ammunition is regulated more strictly than firearms in most jurisdictions.
Frequent misclassification
Airguns: Chapter 93 (9304) in most customs schedules, even though some national laws exempt low-power air rifles from firearms licensing. Replicas / airsoft / paintball: vary by country; some (UK) classify under 9304, others (US) under 9503 (toys).
